Modeling Assessment- Criterion C

Project – 3D modelling and design

Inquiry and Analysis

Statement of Inquiry - Digital Design & Printing as a form of communication and output has evolved through time and space to influence audience's perspective.

My name is Dina Shah, I am 12 years old. I am from Pakistan and born in Sweden. I have been a student at EISM for 10 years. This is my grade 8 design model:

Introduction –
I am a student in Emirates International School Meadows and in these two months of ICT we have gone on tinkerCAD to learn more about our main topic “3D printing”. On tinkerCAD we did several of activities and made lots of different 3D designs. The software tinkerCAD lets you design anything you want. We made lots of designs for example Rockets, Boats, Name Tags and lots of more, then we posted them on our blog, which is connected, to our Gmail account and we write a reflection about it followed with the steps of how to create it.
As part of my MYP design I am making a snow globe in 3D. I picked this design because it looks fun to create and I want to learn the steps to this design. I’m really excited to make the design and use my own imagination and put a twist to it in my own way. I’ve researched about snow globes and they look interesting to make. A snow globe is a transparent sphere which is originally made out of glass. You put an image of a view or some memory and then the sphere encloses water in the globe. The water is support for the snow that falls down. To make the snow float around, you have to shake the glass sphere.  The globe is then placed back to its position and the snow falls through the water. Snow globes sometimes also have a music box placed in the sphere so when you shake it then music starts playing. For your own like you can even put a design around the sphere for decoration.

I think this is helpful and I’m creating it because if you don’t want to lose a memory and you want to remember that memory for a long time but you have no wear to keep it you can put it into a snow globe and place it on your bed side table or display it anywhere in your house and the memory is there. If you want the memory to be more “real” then you just shake the snow globe for snow to fall down.

Design Situation:

Nature of a problem to be addressed
Area from which to identify a problem
Snow globes are a very popular decoration that all ages use. It is environmentally healthy, as it has no bad affect.  If it had an environmental affect I wouldn't create it, as my target audience is children.
The snow globe is only dangerous if it breaks. The snow globe is glass so it can break at any time.

Aesthetics
There is a metal/wood/glass holder for the snow globe. The globe is glass filled with water and fake snow. There is also a memory placed inside the globe.
Cost
Glass - 10 DHS
Holder of Snow globe - 10 DHS
Music Box - 30 DHS
Total Cost: 50 DHS
Customer
Target audience: Children
Although it is suitable for all ages.
Gender: All
Socio-Economic: All
Environmental considerations
The snow globe can waste a lot water since all snow globes have to be filled with water.
Function
The snow globe is used for decoration. It's purpose is if you want to frame a memory. It is very easy to use. To make the snow fall, you must shake it.
Manufacturing
To create the design on tinkerCAD it took 30 minutes
Materials
On tinkerCAD I used a thick cylinder and semi-sphere
Safety
If the glass breaks make sure you don't touch it without cleaning it up carefully.
Size
The size can be to your own like
